I am so pleased that you are interested in learning more about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

It's been more than 50 years since my father, Danny Thomas, began working to raise the funds to build a haven for children stricken with cancer. Growing up, I remember hearing him talk about the hospital and how it was the last hope for many children who walked through its doors.

Today, thanks to caring people like you, St. Jude is that beacon of hope for children who are experiencing the fear and pain of cancer and other deadly illnesses. At St. Jude, no child is ever turned away because of a family's inability to pay, and because of generous support, we have made tremendous strides in cancer research and pioneered new cancer treatments that have helped raise the survival rate of childhood cancers from less than 20 percent to more than 70 percent today.

At St. Jude, we know we are blessed to have your friendship and prayers -- especially during these trying economic times. But rest assured, St. Jude is and always will be extremely cautious and careful with the dollars you send. We are proud to say that 85 cents of every dollar received supports the research and treatment at St. Jude.
